I've had a lot of people searching lately for menus for vegetarian children. I thought I would use this post to go through what my son eats in a typical week (he's 18 months old) and hopefully it will help!
Breakfast:
Oatmeal with ground almonds and raisins
Quinoa porridge (made with rice or soy milk) with ground almonds or yoghurt
French toast with multigrain bread, egg, and rice or soy milk and fruit
Scrambled eggs with herbs and multigrain toast and fruit
Multigrain english muffin with sunflower seed butter and fruit
Cereal (wheat or rice puffs) with soy milk and fruit or yoghurt
Lunch:
Sunflower seed butter sandwich on multigrain bread and vegetable sticks
Lentil vegetable soup
Mini pizzas on multigrain english muffins
Vegetable omelette and toast
Hummus and veggies
Dinner:
Tofu and stir fried vegetables with brown rice
Quinoa pilaf with vegetables and beans
Millet cakes with veggies
Brown rice spaghetti with "meat" sauce (TVP) or lentil "meat"balls
Lentil loaf and root vegetable "fries"
Chick pea ratatouille with pasta/rice/quinoa
Snacks:
Rice cakes
Raisins
Fruit
Vegetable sticks and hummus
Cheese and crackers
Yoghurt
Crackers and sunflower seed butter
Applesauce
My basic rules are to try and give him vegetables 3 times a day (lunch, dinner, 1 snack) and fruit twice a day (breakfast and 1 snack), protein at every meal (we also watch his soy intake - 1 meal a day max), grain at every meal (only 1 gluten grain per day max), and just a wide variety of foods in general to ensure a good balance of nutrients. It's definitely not always easy and there have been days where all he eats is applesauce and a grilled cheese sandwich, but we try our best!
